Set in Zao Onsen and only 200 metres from Zao Onsen Ski Resort, Takasagoya Ryokan offers accommodation with city views, free WiFi and free private parking. A public bath is available for guests. The staff was very kind, as expected from a family owned ryokan. The bath area is small, but you schedule your personal bath time. Food is incredible, a must try when visiting Zao. Location is near the main attractions, like the cable car is reachable by walking. Lots of nearby onsens.

Boasting natural hot spring baths, Hohoemino Kuyufu Tsuruya is located a 15-minute walk from JR Tendo Station, 50 km from Sendai. it is very new, and cozy. Great location and staff is very good.

Featuring free property-wide WiFi, a spa centre and a seasonal outdoor pool, Matsushima Ichinobo offers accommodation in Matsushima. The room (I had the basic level option) was gigantic for Japan, with a huge picture window and a view to die for. To say I was blown away upon arrival would be an understatement. The hotel is spacious and uncrowded. I suspect it caters almost exclusively to the Japanese market so some instructions were on rather informal notes, or simply only in Japanese. The rate is breakfast and dinner included but also includes unlimited alcohol from 7pm and coffee/tea/refreshments all day with an icecream bar in the late morning and afternoon. The silence and sleep quality was superb as was the bathroom with shower.

Tagoto features a hot public bath, Japanese-style and Western rooms and Japanese cuisine, a 5-minute drive from Aizu Wakamatsu Station. Food was great Staff were very organized

Surrounded by sacred mountains and untouched nature, Tamonkan is housed in a historic Japanese-style building. Complimentary tea and snacks are served to welcome guests. Amazing food and beautiful traditional ryokan. Dinner was one of the best meals I have eaten anywhere in my life. The owner's wife and mother prepared and beautifully presented a perfect Japanese dinner, and breakfast (Japanese) was also incredible. Our room was the oldest (100 years) but the whole place dripped with authenticity and good taste. We stayed in early January and it was very cold in the hallways but rooms had gas heaters to keep you cozy. The walk from the front door to the top of Mount Haguro was about an hour and a half with deep compacted snow covering the famous 2446 steps. A truly memorable experience.

Located within a 10-minute walking distance from the Zao Sky Cable aerial lift, Miyamaso Takamiya features 9 natural hot spring baths for guests to enjoy. Very nice, traditional experience! We were very surprised with the diversity of the breakfast. If you want to experience a proper Japanese breakfast, here is one place where you can do that very well. The onsen was very pleasant too, but you might need to get accustomed to the temperature. All in all we had a very pleasant stay here and we can definitely recommend! Thanks a lot :)

Located a 7-minute walk from Gosho Lake, Shikitei Morioka TsunagiOnsen offers free WiFi and indoor/outdoor hot spring baths. JR Morioka Train Station is a 25-minute drive from the property. Top tier hospitality and service. Every meal was meticulously considered and prepared. The menu items also change every meal. The traditional Japanese room with private open air bath was a delight. The staffs were extremely friendly and thoughtful.

Located right in front of Matsushima Bay, Komatsukan Kofu-tei offers accommodations with free wired internet access. The view the room was outstanding! The staff members went above and beyond to help us. My wife has celiac disease and needed special care to be taken with meals and they did an amazing job of providing 2 very large and intricate safe meals each day with no issue.

Katakurinohana has lake views, free WiFi and free private parking, situated in Senboku, 15 km from Nyuto Hot Spring. It is set 49 km from Morioka Station and features free shuttle service. The scenery advertised on Booking.com especially the private onsen, the lobby faced lake view, looked cozy in the ads, every room has lake view….but..

Located in Kitakami, 42 km from Chuson-ji Temple, Yasuragino Yado -Iyashino Yu- provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking. I didn't take the breakfast, so I can't comment on it. Location was good for me since I wanted to walk everyday.
